Dukto R4 : Transfer files over LAN between clients running Symbian, Windows, OS X and Linux OS
‘Dukto R4′ is easy file transfer tool designed to work across LAN with Symbian Phones, Windows, Macintosh and Linux PC’s. Now forget about permissions, operating systems, protocols, firewall and other server-client specific settings. Just install Dukto client on your Symbian smartphone, PC and enjoy easy file sharing across your network.
“Dukto is a simple utility to help people transfer files from one computer to another over a local area network. Very often it happens that you want to transfer a file from a PC to the one next to it, and you wonder “They are connected, they can talk, but how can I transfer this damn file???”. Dukto is the answer.”
Feature:
- Simple user interface
- No server or internet connection needed
- Zero configuration
- Clients auto-discovery
- High speed file transfer
- Multi-OS native support
- No installation needed, standalone executable
- No configuration files or registry changes
- Multi files and folders transfer
- Transfers log
- Free and open source
You Need :
- A Wi-Fi enabled Symbian Smart-phone
- Wi-Fi Router
- A Windows/Mac/Linux based PC connected to Wi-Fi router
The Setup:
- First Download the app on your Nokia phone over Ovi Store
- Now download PC application on your PC
- Install the app on Mobile ( No installation required on PC, just run *.exe to initiate the app)
- Open the Server app on PC

- If you are running a Firewall, you will get an Alert – Just Allow it
- Open the app on your mobile, App will connect to your LAN via Wi-Fi and get listed the PC & other mobile running the Dukto app.

- Now the setup is ready, send a file or folder to PC, just select the PC and browser through you Mobile drives to select and send the desired file or folder (You can also send files and text msgs between two different PC’s or between Wi-Fi enabled Symbian phones running the Dukto app in same network).

- File or Folder will now get transferred to you PC – Check out the PC app log!

- The app only support sending single or multiple files to Symbian phone from PC- Just drag and drop the files to the app. ( App support Files and Folder transfer between PC’s)

- Received files are saved in the Dukto current directory (like dukto.exe c:\Dukto\)

- There is also few others options in the app- Like Text Messaging – you can send text messages to any Phone or PC running the Dukto app within the LAN. There is one more option – If your LAN is routed dukto discovery protocol can’t discover all the other clients on the LAN. So, if you want to send files to a client that’s behind a router, just switch tab to “IP connection“, insert the other peer’s IP and drag the files in the window. NOTE: this works only if there is a router that acts just as router, not as NAT or Firewall.

Dukto is a free open source project, licensed under GPL. Currently it’s available for Nokia Wi-Fi enabled S^1, S^3 smartphones, Windows (XP, Vista, 7), OS X (definitely for intel 10.5.x and 10.6.x) and Linux (at least it works on Ubuntu). With an ability to seamlessly share files and text with connected systems over network, we highly recommend trying out Dukto. It will be particularly come useful for users who need to send and receive files from systems running different OS in a network.
